CEDEC 2026 Talk: What Makes AI-Native Games Fun?

At CEDEC 2026 (July 22–24), our CEO Chenfei Zhang delivered a lightning talk titled “What Makes AI-Native Games Fun? — Game Design Lessons from Early Examples.”

Talk Overview

This session focused on games that integrate generative AI not as a production tool, but as a core element that transforms the gameplay experience itself — so-called “AI-native games.”

Drawing from examples across Japan and internationally, we analyzed gameplay patterns through three lenses:

  • The role AI plays within the game
  • Its form of expression
  • How the game changes in response to player actions

We then shared insights on what makes AI-native games engaging, and key considerations for incorporating generative AI into gameplay.

Target Audience

  • Anyone exploring new gameplay ideas and experiences
  • Those interested in games powered by generative AI
  • Anyone looking to understand the landscape of AI-native games

Presentation slides are available on CEDiL (login required).
